Mae Morrow

March 21, 1921 — November 20, 2005

Waynesville-Mae Burr Messer Morrow, age 84, of 959 Cove Creek Road, passed away on November 20, 2005 at her residence. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Elijah and Callie Franklin Messer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Morrow, who died in 1973 and a son-in-law, Gerald Devine. She was owner/operator of Morrow Grocery at Cove Creek for many years. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed hiking. She loved flowers and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She attended Cove Creek Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Helen Devine and Edith Messer and her husband, Tommy; two sons, Jerry Morrow and his wife, Ellie, and Bennie Morrow and his wife, Dorothy; two sisters, Laura Burgess and Evie Rathbone and her husband, Lewis; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren, all of Waynesville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at Cove Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Ted Reeves and Reverend Fred Frady officiating. Burial will follow at Davis Cemetery at Cove Creek. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Serving as pallbearers will be Alan, Terry, and Michael Morrow, Kyle Messer, Billy Cody, Jonathan Miller, and Burton Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Messer and Michael Haynes. Memorials may be made to Jonathan Creek Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 158, Waynesville, NC 28786.
