Magdalene Riddle

May 10, 1918 — November 29, 2014

Waynesville, Magdalene Messer Riddle, age 96, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain. A native of Spartanburg County, South Carolina, she lived most of her life in Haywood County before moving to Shelby. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Ellen Anna Dee Bradley Messer. Magdalene was also preceded in death by her husband, Lester Dean Riddle, who died in 1985, as well as three daughters, one son, one sister and two brothers. Magdalene loved farming and her flowers. and she also loved spending time with her children especially during the holidays. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and enjoyed visiting the cemetery on Decoration Day. Magdalene is survived by four daughters, Sheila Bridges (John) of Shelby, Norma Jean Welch (Dennis) of Blacksburg, South Carolina, Mae Manley of Kings Mountain, and Annette Burton (Rodney) of Bessemer City; four sons, Joe Riddle (Bonnie) of Washington State, Jack Riddle (Geneve) of Idaho, Johnny Riddle (Karen) and Jerry Riddle (Linda) of Waynesville; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
