Maggie Nelson

July 15, 1922 — November 4, 2007

Maggie Mae Goodson Nelson, age 85, died Sunday, November 4, 2007, at Autumn Care Nursing Home. She was a native of Haywood County and the daughter of the late Francis and Jean Inman Goodson. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Virgil Shuler, Sr., who died in 1972; her second husband, Claude Nelson who died in 2002; and two sons, Billy and Charles Shuler. She is survived by five daughters, Barbara Rhodes of Jacksonville, FL, Hester Ann Jones of Asheville, Louise Green of Clyde, Etta Sue Teague of Hot Springs and Mazie Hargrove of Canton; three sons, Virgil Shuler, Jr. of Bryson City, Sammy Shuler of Canton, and Verlin Shuler of Powell, TN; a sister, Eva Jean Goodson of Waynesville; a brother, Charles Goodson of Waynesville; 21 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jimmy Trantham officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
