Del Rio, Tennessee, Major Deborah Sue Cope (R), age 68, entered her eternal home on January 31, 2021.
Deborah was born on October 31, 1952 to the late William Robert and Betty Sue Overcash in Concord, North Carolina. She was born to officer parents and was very active in the corps where her parents were. Deborah accepted the Lord in Sherman, Texas, she played the cornet growing up and was involved in youth work, enjoyed visiting nursing homes and any activities that were going on in the corps. She first felt God’s calling on her life when she was a teenager and thought maybe the mission field would be her calling one day. Deborah met David and fell in love and got married on July 29, 1972. Together they have four children, Hayley Michelle, Billy Davis, William Robert and Joshua Cameron Cope.
They served together in Texas, Austin, Freeport and Pasadena, AOK-DYS’s, NSC-DYS’s, Florida, Ocala, Lakeland, NCV-Lynchburg, Georgia, Macon, NSC, Waynesville until retirement in July 2020 and moved into their home in Del Rio, Tennessee.
Major Deborah Cope is survived by her husband, of over 48 years, David Cope; children, Hayley, Billy, Bobby and Joshua; two granddaughters, Anna Brown and Baylie Cope; four grandsons, Ethan Brown, Ayden, Owen and Wyatt Cope; and many relative and friends that will miss her very much.

Major David Cope and family will be having a time for family and friends viewing from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at The Salvation Army, Waynesville North Carolina Corps., 290 Pigeon Street, Waynesville with Majors Michael and Susan Rodgers officiating, a virtual streaming will be available.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Waynesville Salvation Army Corps.
