Malcom Beasley

November 30, 1931 — February 14, 2010

Waynesville, M. L. Beasley, 78, of the Iron Duff Community went home to be with the Lord Sunday, February 14, 2010 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. Malcom was preceded in death by his parents, Farady L. and Della Justice Beasley and a brother, Frank Beasley. He graduated from Crabtree Iron Duff High School where he was a basketball star, leading the Yellow Jackets to State and then tournament champions. He was a US Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He played basketball while in the Army and also played Semi-Pro for the Enka Corporation, traveling the Southeast. Malcom retired from Champion International with 37 years of service. He was an avid fly fisherman and fished all the local trout waters. He taught his sons the art of fly-fishing and Malcom was a fisher of men, witnessing to the love of the Lord and his salvation. He was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir. Malcom enjoyed singing in four-part harmony, the shape note style, and was a member of the The New Beginnings Sunday School Class. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Josephine (Jo) Presnell Beasley; four sons, Michael, Malcom and Phillip Beasley all of Waynesville and Timothy Beasley and his wife, Janet, of Statesville, NC; one daughter, Rebecca Kirkpatrick, of Waynesville; four grandsons, Michael and Fulton Beasley of Waynesville, Chance Beasley, and his wife, Abby, of Oxford Mississippi, and Marc Beasley and his wife, Aleshia, of Laurenceville, GA; four granddaughters, Jennifer, Melanie, Cristen and Samantha, all of Waynesville and two great granddaughters, Anniston, and Olivia. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Calvary Road Baptist Church, 77 Sutton Loop, Waynesville with the Reverend Max Smith of Kannapolis, Reverend John Swanger, III and Reverend Dennis Ruff officiating. Burial will follow in the Crabtree Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Marc, Chance, Fulton, Chris and Sam and Kenny Duckett. Honorary pallbearers will be grandson, Michael Beasley and granddaughters, Jennifer, Melanie, Cristen, Abby, Aleshia and Samantha. The family wishes to thank doctors and friends, who were helpful in caring for Malcom during his illness. Memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721 or the Crabtree Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 480 Crabtree Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
