Mantolene McMahan Ivester, age 85, of Dewey Avenue died Tuesday, September 19, 2006, at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center where she spent her last months with friends and family. She was a native of Nantahala and the daughter of the late Horace and Esther Mashburn McMahan. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. V. Ivester who died in 2001. She was a long-time member of West Canton Baptist Church. Mantolene had a special place in her heart for her family. She also loved crafts, especially sewing, quilting, and crocheting. She is survived by a daughter, Vickie Hardy and her husband, Tom, of Candler; a son, Rickey Ivester and his wife, Diann, of Waynesville; a grandson, Jason Ivester of Waynesville; two step-grandchildren, Todd and Jon-Lee Hardy of Baltimore; two sisters, Dorothy Owenby of Andrews and Janet Cearley and her husband, Joe, of Chatsworth, GA; five brothers, Dillard McMahan and his wife, Hildred, and James McMahan and his wife, Vivian, both of Andrews; Manuel McMahan and his wife, Martha; Doyle McMahan and his wife, Margie, and J. D. McMahan and his wife, Wanda, all of High Point. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2006, at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend W. O. Henson officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Vickie Hardy. Memorials may be made to West Canton Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 75 Lowe Street, Canton, NC 28716.
