Marcene Mehaffey

Waynesville-Marcene Lowe Mehaffey, age 66, of Nottingham Lane, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003 after an extended illness.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Walter C. and Milie Rathbone Lowe. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Lowe, and a grandson, Adam Gentry. She was a 32-year retired employee of the Haywood County School System and served as cafeteria manager at Jonathan Valley Elementary and Fines Creek Elementary Schools. She also had been employed for fifteen years at Maggie Valley Country Club as executive housekeeping supervisor. She was a member of White Oak Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Bobby Mehaffey; a daughter, Rita Faye Gentry; two sons, Doyle Jackson ''Jackie'' Gentry, Jr. and his wife, Judy, and Danny Franklin Gentry and his wife, Debbie; a sister, Betty Lattimore, and her husband, Frank; four grandsons, Jason, Aaron, Matthew, and Dylan Gentry, all of Waynesville.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2003 at White Oak Baptist Church with Reverend Gary Putnam and Reverend Billy Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2003 at the funeral home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the service, and at other times, the family will be at the home of the sister, Betty Lattimore, 1031 Oakdale Road, Waynesville, NC 28786. Pallbearers will be Jason, Aaron, and Matthew Gentry, Rick Thompson, Steve Phillips, and Kelley Williams. Dylan Gentry will serve as honorary pallbearer.
