Waynesville, Margaret Perry Bramlett, 95, passed away quietly at Autumn Care on Saturday, January 10, 2009. Affectionately known as "Miss Perry", she was born in Asheville, NC on August 15, 1913 to the late Louis E. and Lillie Plott Perry. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, T.L. "Tink" Bramett who died in 1983 and a sister, Salinda P. O'Donnell. Although she had no children of her own, she successfully helped raise thousands of children in Haywood County during her 35 years as a teacher in the public school system. She spent her childhood summers at Camps Hemlock and Dellwood in Maggie Valley which her father successfully started in the 1920's. She attended Milligan College, Western Carolina and UNC of Greensboro where she received her degree in elementary education. Many a young lady in Waynesville learned to "carry themselves appropriately" with Miss Perry's stern prodding. She took great pride in working with the late C.E. Weatherby coaching the girl's basketball team at W.T.H.S. During summer breaks she worked as the equestrian instructor for young girls from all over the east coast at Camp Junaluska. Margaret's quest for knowledge never ceased. She often commented that "smart people are simply ignorant people who took the time to learn" and would constantly chide herself for not taking advantage of all the opportunities that came her way. She is survived by a caring extended surrogate family. A Commemoration of Her Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2009 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Kathleen M. Wilson officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held at The Gateway Club in Waynesville. Memorials may be made to the Haywood County Schools Foundation, 1230 N. Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
