Margaret Carpenter

Waynesville, Margaret Carpenter, 88, a Haywood County native, died peacefully April19, 2009, at the Haywood Lodge & Retirement Center. Margaret was the daughter of the late Farady Crawford Green and Georgia Ferguson Green. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Carpenter who died in 1993. Margaret was well known as a teacher at Fines Creek Elementary School and as a successful coach of the women's basketball team at Fines Creek High School. She left teaching to become a Sales Manager with Field Enterprises selling World Book Encyclopedias through out Western NC. Margaret was very involved in community activities including: the Haywood County Democratic Party, the Daughters of the American Revolution and Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Tammy C. Palmer, and her husband, Timothy Frazier, of Raleigh. Her son, James Michael (Mike) Carpenter, and his wife, Julia, of Raleigh. Her four grandchildren: Jennifer Carpenter, a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill; James Carpenter, a freshman at Appalachian State University; Wesley Frazier, and Ryen Frazier, both in middle school in Raleigh. She is also survived by her sister, Kathryn Kirkpatrick, of Waynesville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Jimmy Moore. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church's cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Ferguson, Charles Boyd, Bernard Ferguson, Austin Swanger, John Palmer, Reeves Ferguson, James Carpenter, and David Noland. The family will receive visitors on Friday, April 24, 2009, at Wells Funeral Home from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm in Waynesville.
