Margaret Fugate

Waynesville, Margaret Louise Fugate, 86, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Haywood Lodge and Retirement Center. A native of Haywood County she was the daughter of the late Joseph D. and Laura Moody Russell. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Fugate, who died in 1979; one brother, Ransom Russell; and a grandson, Aaron Fugate. Margaret retired from Dayco Corporation in 1993 with 32 years of service. She was also the proprietor of Fugate's Flea Market from 1969 to 2013. Margaret approached life with lovingkindness. Her sweet disposition and genuine interest in others endeared her to all she met. Margaret had a strong passion for her favorite power tool, the weed eater. Margaret was blessed with an amazing church family at Dellwood Baptist Church. Margaret is survived by her sons, Joe David Fugate, James Robert Fugate, and his wife, Maxine, all of Waynesville, and Jerry Fugate, and his wife, Teresa, of Washburn, Tennessee; daughters, Patricia Fugate, and her husband, Sam Sharp, Cathy Carson, and her husband, Paul, all of Canton, and Mary Beth Akers, of Waynesville; sisters, Joan Evans, of Asheville and Bobette Parton, of Waynesville; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Dellwood Baptist Church with Reverend Bobby Rogers and Reverend Barry Willett officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of one's choice.
