Margaret Robertson Higgins, a beloved registered nurse and cherished family member, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on January 2, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on February 4, 1938, in Haywood County, North Carolina, Margaret dedicated her life to caring for others in her community, both in her professional career and her family life.
For over 25 years, Margaret made a significant impact at Haywood Regional Medical Center as a registered nurse, showcasing her deep commitment to the health and well-being of others. She earned her associate's degree in nursing, which laid the foundation for a career marked by compassion and selflessness. Margaret was known for her caring nature and generous spirit, traits that left a lasting impression on those she encountered.
In addition to her impactful career, Margaret was cherished for her remarkable culinary skills. Revered as the best cook in the family, she was famous for her delicious meatloaf, “Nanny tates” fried taters, and her mouthwatering biscuits and gravy, which will be fondly remembered at family gatherings.
Margaret’s passions extended beyond her profession and kitchen. She enjoyed reading and challenging herself with crossword puzzles. An avid sports fan, she held a special place in her heart for the Atlanta Braves, celebrating their victories with fervor. Above all else, she was deeply committed to her church, Morningstar United Methodist Church in Canton where her beautiful voice was heard in the choir, and her love for the Lord was taught to the children in Sunday school.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Lisa Rhinehart of Canton; her sister, Gail Whiteaker of Spartanburg, SC; her brother, Mike Robertson (Wanda) of Anderson, SC; her grandchildren, Cambrie West (Dusty Ladd) and Regan Lee (Paul); her great-grandchildren, Luna Evans, Ariana Medford, and Charlotte Lee; and many nieces and nephews who will deeply miss her warmth and kindness.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Woodrow Robertson and Lorene Smathers Robertson Davis, and her son, Darren Higgins, who left this world in 1987.
At her request, no formal services will be held at this time.
Margaret Robertson Higgins leaves behind an enduring legacy of love, care, and dedication that will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be remembered not only for her professional contributions but also for the joy she brought to her family and friends through her nurturing spirit and exceptional talents.
The care of Ms. Higgins has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
