Waynesville, Margaret Noland McGirt, 82, of 151 Auburn Park Drive, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Asheville Specialty Hospital in Asheville. A native of Haywood County, she was born to the late Hugh Love and Louie Medford Noland. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Nancie. Margaret was a member of Crabtree United Methodist Church. She was also a member of DAR and of NARF. Margaret was a 1952 graduate of Waynesville Township High School and graduated from Greensboro College in 1956 with a double major in Education and Sociology. After graduation she worked with the Buncombe County Department of Social Services in Child Welfare and with the Henderson County Department of Social Services until 1976. Her husband's job function was then transferred to Salt Lake City, Utah. Margaret moved west with two children and her dog arriving in Utah on July 4, 1976. After a period of time she began working for the Court System of Utah. She and John continued working in Utah until their retirement in 1990. After retirement they moved back to Haywood County in order to be near and help care for her parents. Later Margaret obtained a job with Haywood County Social Services and worked until her final retirement. Margaret is survived by her husband of 59 years, John McGirt; two sons, John McGirt, III, of Waynesville; Hugh Noland McGirt, and his wife, Sheila; grandson, Hugh Noland, McGirt II; granddaughter, Katie Marie McGirt, all of Salt Lake City, Utah. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Terry Rowland officiating. Burial will follow at Crabtree Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until service time at the funeral home.
