Margaret Rogers

Clyde – Margaret Ruth Murray Rogers, age 88, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015. A lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late J. Paul and Jincie Harris Murray. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, F. Lewis Rogers, who died on October 28, 1987. Margaret was an active member and deacon of Canton First Baptist Church, serving in many capacities of the church throughout her life. She loved working in the youth department, WMU, and planned many outings and activities for the Joy Club. She was an active participant in the Clyde Women's Club, American Cancer Society and throughout Haywood County, sharing her compassion, love and generosity with all who came in contact with her. She was a 1945 graduate of Canton High School and a graduate of Mars Hill College. During her working years, she worked in the medical and dental fields and was co-owner of Haywood Tractor Company, Inc. of Lake Junaluska. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Karen Milner and her husband, Steve, of Greenville, SC; her son, James Rogers and his wife, Imogene, of Clyde; five grandchildren, Cheley McDowell and her husband, Shamgar, Stephanie Milner and Josh Milner, all of Greenville, SC, Jessie Rogers of Canton and Bethanie Rogers of Clyde; five great-grandchildren, Benaiah, Aletheia, Phinehas, Elijah and Shiloh McDowell, all of Greenville, SC; and a number of very dear nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Canton First Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Jack B. Sammons and Reverend Dr. T. David Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canton First Baptist Church, 74 Academy Street, Canton, NC 28716.
