Margaret Stamey

August 15, 1924 — February 18, 2012

Margaret Jones Stamey, age 87, died on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at her home in Candler. She was born on August 15, 1924, in Waynesville. She resided in Haywood County until 1955 and then resided in Buncombe County until her death. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Ella Mae Jones. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Glenn William Stamey; daughter, Glenda Rae Stamey; brothers, Billy Jones and Louis Jones; sister, Louise Stanley. She was a faithful member of Pole Creek Baptist Church for over fifty years. She was former WMU director and Missions Coordinator. Her life's passion was missions and evangelism. She served on the board of the Western North Carolina Rescue Mission. She was involved in several mission projects at home and abroad. She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Ferguson and her husband, Tommy and Pat Sexton and her husband, Bruce, both of whom reside in Candler; sisters, Evelyn Ketner of Maggie Valley and Shirley Myers and her husband, Sidney, of Clyde; brother, Ned Jones and his wife, Willie Jean, of Waynesville. She was "Nanny" to six grandchildren, Becky Payne and her husband, Kevin, Mike Sexton and his wife, Debbie, Brett Ferguson and his wife, Julianna, Kevin Sexton and his wife, Keri, Amy Anderson and her husband, Mark, and Ase Midtveit Thomas and her husband, Chris; and 12 great-grandchildren, Heath, Carson, and Dalton Payne, Corey and Taylor Sexton, Kylie, Cole and Kloyee Anderson, Connor and Luke Sexton, and Isaac and Lee Ferguson. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, in the fellowship hall of Pole Creek Baptist Church with a Celebration-of-Life Fellowship beginning at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road. Pallbearers will be the great-grandsons. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Pole Creek Baptist Church Mission's Fund, 96 Snow Hill Church Road, Candler, NC 28715.
