Marguerite Prevost

Marguerite Prevost passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2017. A long-time resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late John L. Giles and Lois Henley Giles. She was also preceded in death by her first husband Richard Haynes, her second husband Whitener 'Red' Prevost, and many cherished friends. Mogie is survived by her son Frederick 'Buster' Haynes; of Asheville, her daughter, Andrea Haynes and husband, Fred Schmidt, of Waynesville, and her daughter, Helen Pressley and husband, Jerry, of Waynesville; one cousin, Rickey Jacobs, and her husband, Ralph, of Spring Hill, Tennessee; and three step-children, Bo Prevost, of Waynesville, Harris Prevost, of Boone, North Carolina, and Ann P. Smith of Lansdale, Pennsylvania. Mogie was born in 1919 in Eastman, Georgia. The family moved to Michigan, where she grew up, graduated from Michigan State University, and married Richard Haynes. They, and her parents, moved to Haywood County after World War II, where her father started and ran the Giles Chemical Company for many years. Richard Haynes died in 1961, and in 1972 Mogie married Red Prevost, with whom she later owned and operated The Added Touch decorating shop in Waynesville. Red passed away in 1980. Mogie was a wonderful artistic soul. She was a devoted and generous wife, mother, and member of the community; a seamstress, decorator, painter, musician and needleworker; a creator of original sayings and whimsical inventions. For many years she was an active member of the Waynesville Presbyterian Church, which she and her Auntie Fran beautifully decorated for Easter and Christmas. She also made costumes for the Haywood Arts Repertory Theater, projects she described as "the most fun ever". She was an enthusiastic golfer, bridge-player and traveler. Most of all, she delighted in her friendships with all her buddies. Mogie passed away on June 8 at her home, at the age of 98. She had many health challenges in her last years, but to the end of her days she was a funny lady, a loving mother, and a joy to be with. A good life, well lived.
