Maria de Jesús Zuniga, a devoted caregiver and beloved member of her community, passed away on December 12, 2024 at the CarePartners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville at the age of 52. Born on September 22, 1972, in Morelos, Mexico, she was a beacon of love and kindness throughout her life.
For over 15 years, Maria dedicated herself to the care of children. Her passion for nurturing young souls led her to open her own daycare, creating a warm and welcoming environment where children could learn and grow. Maria’s influence extended beyond her daycare; she was an active member of Casa del Alfarero, where she volunteered her time to care for the church's children. Her heart was always open, and she poured her love into every child she encountered.
In addition to her work with children, Maria was deeply committed to helping those in need. She volunteered with Helpmate, serving as a translator to assist individuals who had fallen victim to domestic violence. This selfless act of service showcased her unwavering desire to uplift others, demonstrating her belief that everyone deserves compassion and support.
Maria was not only known for her caring nature but also for the way she expressed her love. She cherished her family and made it a point to remind them of her love at every opportunity. Her words, “I love you,” echoed throughout her home, creating a legacy of warmth and affection that will resonate with her loved ones forever.
She is survived by her loving husband, Juan Landaverde, and her dear children, Bianca Landaverde and Juan Landaverde, Jr., both of Asheville. Maria was also embraced by the love of her parents, Leoncio Zuniga and Blanca Chan Zuniga of Morelos, Mexico; her sisters Lina Zuniga (José) and Carmen Benitaz (Bisael), both of Asheville, and her brother, Alberto Zunigo of Candler. In addition, her vibrant spirit will be remembered by her many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Maria de Jesús Zuniga leaves behind a legacy filled with love, selflessness, and compassion. Her impact on the lives of those she touched will endure, as her family and community continue to cherish her memory.
The care of Mrs. Zuniga has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler.
