Marie Ballew

Marie Penland Ballew, age 72, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at her daughter's residence after a strong and courageous battle with cancer. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late L. D. and Estle Louise Wright Penland. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Karen Rochelle Ballew. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where she was a dedicated member. Marie will be remembered for her kind and caring spirit towards others and her deep devoted love towards her family She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Mack Lynn Ballew; a daughter, Melita Craine and her husband, Anthony, of Asheville; a son, Steven Ballew and his wife, Michele, of Hendersonville; a brother, Carl Spencer Penland of Greensboro; four grandchildren, Steven Craine, Whitney Ballew, Marissa Price, and Josh Taylor; and a niece, Brittney Penland. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Trinity Baptist Church with the Reverend Allen Rash and Reverend Donnie Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Wesleyan Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of arrangements.
