Marie Powell Frady, of Pisgah Drive, passed away on December 15, 2015. She was born in Tuckaseigee in Jackson County, the daughter of Christine Edwards Powell and Hobert Hayes Powell, who preceded her in death. Marie was a graduate of Bethel High School and attended Cecil's Business College (now South College). She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she was active in the Niners Class. Marie had also served as church treasurer and as counselor for the Methodist Youth Fellowship. Marie was the wife of Hugh Frady, who died in September, 1997. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Hoyt, Charles, Lowell, Orville, and T.J. Powell and one sister, Ernestine Crouch. She is survived by a daughter Janice Frady Henson and her husband, Charles; and a grandson, David Charles Henson. Also surviving is one sister, Imo Jean Lyerly of Canton; three sisters-in-law, Janet Frady and Birdie Powell of Canton, and Gayle Horton of Lewiston, Idaho; one brother-in-law, Troy Erwin of Canton; and several nieces and nephews. Marie loved her home, family and friends. She especially loved going to their Crawford Creek cabin. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2014 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend J.C. Grose, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 804 Sonoma Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
