Spring Creek, Betty "Marie" Surrett Gentry, 76, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Madison County, a dedicated member of Lusk Chapel Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Q.T. Surrett and Rachel Hipps Surrett. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Jackson Gentry, who died in 1998; two sons, Steven Lee James, Larry Wayne James; a sister, Bonnie Carver; and two brothers, Luther and Morris Surrett. Marie loved the Lord with all her heart and enjoyed reading her Bible. She enjoyed shopping and gardening, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Marie is survived by four daughters, Glenda Davis (Kenny) and their son, Kenneth and Rhonda Allen (Jack) and children, Halie and Seth, of Spring Creek, Linda Lanning (Kenneth) and children, Annie, Cindy, Kimberly, Joey, Benny and Steve of Clyde and Brenda Wines (Roger) and daughter, Connie, of Leicester; two sons, Roger James (Lisa) of Waynesville and Gary Gentry (Nacoe) and daughters, Cora and Emma of Spring Creek; children of Larry Wayne James (deceased) Jessie, Lewis, and Robert; two sisters, Mabel Brown of Waynesville and Louise Carver of Canton; and two brothers, Max Surrett and Golar Surrett (Liza) of Waynesville; and numerous great-grandchilden and great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Lusk Chapel Baptist Church with Reverend Jonathan Sluder, Reverend Jimmy Moore and Reverend Gene Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Woody Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve and Joey Lanning, Roger Wines, Seth and Jack Allen and Kenny Davis. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
