Marie Kingdon

May 19, 1915 — January 31, 2005

Maggie Valley-Marie "Peggy" Kingdon, age 89, died Sunday, January 30, 2005 at the home of her daughter in Mount Vernon, Ohio. A native of Sparks, Maryland, she had lived in Haywood County since 1985. She was the daughter of the late Alan and Goldie Lloyd Cofiell. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, George Robert Kingdon in 2002, who was laid to rest in Arlington Cemetery; a son, William Canova, who died in 1991; and two brothers. She was an avid bowler who had bowled in 36 tournaments and was involved with the HAWA. She was a member of Maggie Valley United Methodist Church and the Maggie Valley Civic Association. She is survived by a daughter, Joan Ellen Jones, and her husband, Art, of Mt. Vernon, OH; a sister, Blanche Marcella Wingler, of Parkton, MD; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2005 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes and Cremation Services with Reverend Jeremy Troxler and Reverend Erma Bond. Burial will be held at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Marriottsville, MD. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday prior to the services. A reception will follow the services at Maggie Valley United Methodist Church fellowship hall. One of her wishes was to thank everyone who helped her, all her good neighbors, her friends, and most of all the one she called her guardian angel, Judy Peterson. Memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
