Waynesville-Marie Ellen Butterfly McReynolds, age 56, of 4th Street, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at her residence. A native of Rutland, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late Gerald Wayne and Elizabeth Ellen Costello Butterfly. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Asa, who died in 2000. Marie graduated in 1966 from Mount St. Joseph Academy in Rutland, Vermont. She resided in the Fort Lauderdale, FL area for over 30 years before moving to Waynesville, NC were she has resided for the past seven years. Marie was a manager for J.C. Penney's in Fort Lauderdale. In Waynesville, she worked at Cedar Hill Studio and the Mast General Store. She served on the Promotions Committee for the downtown Waynesville Association and was also a member of the Waynesville Gallery Association. Marie always, with great enthusiasm, volunteered her time to promote all the businesses and activities on Main Street. Marie was also a member of the Red Hat Society where she enjoyed many friendships. Marie's vivacious personality, sense of humor, and caring nature will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends with whom she shared her gifts of love and friendship. Marie is survived by a sister, Elaine Pecor and her husband, Bud, of Middlebury, VT; a brother, George Butterfly and his wife, Glenda, of Fayetteville, NC; two step-sons, Mark McReynolds and his wife, Debi, and Michael McReynolds, both of Melbourne, FL; two step-daughters, Gail Kirrstetter and her husband, Richard, of Lansing, NC and Sherry Nied and her husband, Dan, of Concord, NC; two nieces, Caresse Whyte and her husband, TJ, of Morrisville, VT and Nicole Butterfly of Fayetteville, NC; a nephew, Garth Pecor, of Middlebury, VT; three grandchildren, Benjamin and Alex Nied and Vanessa Mahdinec; and her beloved K-9 companion, RC. A Memorial Mass service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church with Father Frank Doyle officiating. A "Celebration of Life" party will follow the service at Smoky Shadows Lodge.
