Marie Sutton

Waynesville – Marie Young Sutton, 82, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Mission Memorial Campus.

Marie was a native of Jackson County and a daughter of the late Charlie and Nora Payne Young.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Doris Kepley, Donnie Woodring and Joyce Smith; and two brothers, Gerald and Jim Young.  Marie worked as a caregiver to many for a number of years at their residence.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Maggie Valley where she served as a Sunday school teacher and drove the church bus for Bible school.  Marie enjoyed spending time with her family and nurturing others.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Luther Sutton; one daughter, Annette Sutton; one son, Jeff Sutton (Wanda); five grandchildren, Marty Ledford, Dawn Willis (George), Ben Sutton (Carrie), Luke Sutton and Jacob Sutton (Olesea); and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 a First Baptist Church of Maggie Valley with the Reverend Dr. Mike Odom and Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating.  Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
