Marietta Banks Cogburn died on Sunday, October 17, 2010, at her residence. A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Virgie Rhea Banks. She was a member of Clyde First Baptist Church and the Haywood County East Gideon's Auxiliary. Marietta loved bowling and sewing; she also enjoyed flowers and spending time at Lake Chatuge. She retired from the Haywood County School system. She is survived by her husband, J. Eddie Cogburn, who she married on November 24, 1955; a daughter, Kathy C. Johnson; a son, Jimmy Cogburn and his wife, Bobby; five sisters, Alice Bolin, Carol Young, Judy Herron, Bernice Mackey, and Marjorie Penley; three brothers, Bob, Willis K., and Louis Glen Banks; two grandchildren, Stacey and Kendra Johnson; two step-grandchildren, Luke Smith and Staff Sgt. Mike Smith; and a very special friend and caregiver, Becky Moses. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with the Reverend David Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Memorials may be made to Gideon International, East Haywood Camp, P. O. Box 1204, Canton, NC 28716 or to Clyde First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 356, Clyde, NC 28721.
