Marjorie Hymer

March 17, 1942 — March 6, 2011

Waynesville, NC - Marjorie Rueter Hymer, 68, passed away at the John F. Keever Solace Hospice Center in Asheville, NC on Sunday, March 6, 2011 after a valiant fight with brain cancer. Marjie was born in 1942 in Evergreen Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago to father Ferdinand W. Rueter and mother Ann Marie Taylor. Marjie is survived by her brother William Rueter of Stuart, Florida, her sister Sharon Staab of Palm City, Florida, her son Christian Hymer of Otsego, Minnesota, her son Charles Hymer of Austin, Texas, her daughter Beth Hodge of Burlington, North Carolina, her daughter Melinda Clifton of Des Plaines, Illinois, her 7 grandchildren, and her adorable fluffy white dog Gidget. Marjie was very active in her church community at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church in Waynesville, North Carolina, where she volunteered for mission trips, participated in bible study, and made everlasting friends. A founder and Queen for several years of a local chapter of the Red Hat Society, she had a great sense of humor, enjoyed socializing with her fellow Red Hatters, playing cards, and competing in cookie baking contests. Growing up near Chicago, Illinois, Marjie lived in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Brussels, Belgium, Cruso, North Carolina, and Waynesville, North Carolina. Over the years, Marjie worked as an executive secretary at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, and as a homemaker, a travel agent, a condominium manager, and a small business owner, operating a stained glass company called "Glass Accents and More" for several years. Incredibly creative, Marjie enjoyed quilting, knitting, canning, gardening, cardmaking, as well as working with her stained glass and kilns in her home studio. But most of all, Marjie enjoyed her family, her grandchildren, and her favorite dog Gidget. She was a woman of strong Christian faith and values, a breast cancer survivor, a mother, grandmother, sister and friend, and she will be missed. A visitation and service will be held in North Carolina to celebrate Marjie's life on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church, located at 133 Old Clyde Road, Waynesville, NC 28785. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m., and the service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Marjie will be laid to rest in Florida next to her parents at Riverside Memorial Park located at 19351 SE County Line Road, Tequesta FL, 33469-2145. The service at Riverside Memorial Park in Florida will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2011.
