Mark Herren, Sr.

Candler-Mark Henry Herren, Sr., age 80 died Thursday, August 28, 2003 at Memorial Mission Hospital.

He was a native of Haywood County and was the son of the late George H. and Missouri Rogers Herren. He was also preceded in death by two sons; Mark Henry Herren, Jr., Ronald Edward Herren and a sister Mary Edith Herren. He retired from Champion International with 45 years of service and was a United States Army Veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Clara Smith Herren, one son, Terry Herren and his wife Janet of Asheville, three sisters; Georgia Smathers and Leta Onysko, both of Candler and Anna Dee Davis of Maggie Valley, 5 grandchildren; Heidi Herren, Holli Herren-Ball, Mark Henry "Shane" Herren III, Angie Baldwin and Lisa Miller and 7 great-grandchildren; Kylie, Seth, Cody, Jordan, Skylar, Dylan and Jacob.

Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 31, 2003 at Snow Hill United Methodist Church with Reverend Roger Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Saturday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton where the body will remain until 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be Shane Herren, Mike Smathers, Kevin Smathers, Scott Davis, Stewart Davis, Guy Smith, Jr., Steve Smith and Jeff Ball.
