Marquita Howard

Canton –Marquita Henson Howard, age 71, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2014 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late James Edward and Mary Smathers Henson. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Donald Henson. Marquita retired with 38 years service from Servomation as a Food Service Manager. She was an avid reader, loved making candy and cooking for her family. She was a volunteer for REACH. and was a past recipient of REACH Volunteer of the year. Marquita was a member of First Baptist Church of Canton. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jimmie Hubert Howard; a daughter, Dr. Lynne Barrett of Waynesville; a son, Michael David Howard of Canton; a brother, Stephen Edward Henson of Canton; four grandchildren, Stephany Smathers, Adam Simonds, Mikal Howard and Madison Howard and three great-grandchildren, Noah and Adalyn Simmonds and Grayson Christopher Boggie. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jay Meadows officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to REACH of Haywood County, P.O.
