Clyde - Marshall Weaver Jones, age 84, died Saturday, March 20, 2004 at the V. A. Medical Center in Asheville.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late Erastus and Tennie Rhinehart Jones. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Jones.
He retired from Champion International in 1981 with 40 years of service. He was a member of Clyde Central United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of Clyde Masonic Lodge #453 AF&AM, Clyde Eastern Star #188 and the Disabled American Veterans Association. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II where he was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, Margaret Monteith Jones of Clyde, he is survived by a daughter, Marsha Stalcup and her husband, Tony, of Clyde; two sons, Phillip Jones of Waynesville and Michael Jones and his wife, Nancy, of Atlanta; four sisters, Matral Green of Mary Ester, FL, Barindena Dolassek of Clyde, Lucy Weatherholtz of Lawrenceville, GA, and Jean Sluder of Candler; three brothers, Alvin Jones of Woolwich, ME, Ray Jones of Bristol, VA, and Reeves Jones of Ocala, FL, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Chris Westmoreland officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. prior to the graveside service at Wells Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Canton. At other times, the family will be at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fincher's Chapel Cemetery Maintenance Fund, c/o Judy McCracken, Route 1, Box 170A, Clyde, NC 28721 or a charity of one's choice.
