Martha Bowen

Waynesville, Martha Lee Ferguson Bowen, age 77, of 198 Shelton Street, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2010 at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Harry Lee Ferguson and Lois Kinsland Ferguson. She was employed as Dr. Eugene Harpe's assistant for 18 years. She was a member of Hazelwood Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed being active in the women's group of the church. Martha enjoyed cooking, reading, flower gardening, and crocheting. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Doug Bowen; one son, Doug Bowen, Jr. and his wife, Jan, of Auburn Hills, Michigan; one daughter, Linda Bowen of Waynesville; two sisters, Mary Lou Kelley of Hampton, Virginia, Barbara James of Seaford, Virginia; a half sister, Esther Hurst of Belleville, Michigan; three grandchildren, Mark Grasty and Paul and Andrew Bowen; and two great grandchildren, Patra Grasty and Louis Constante. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, May 13, 2010 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Patrick Womack officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until Noon on Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.
