Martha Jane Chastain

Martha Jane Chastain, born on August 7, 1938, in Haywood County, North Carolina, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. The daughter of Troy and Pearl Mason Burnette, Martha lived a life rich in love and devotion, as a loyal and devoted ministers wife. She married her husband, Rev. Carl Chastain, in May of 1954. 

Mrs. Chastain was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Rev. Carl Chastain, who passed away in 2019, and by her parents, Troy and Pearl Burnette.

Mrs. Chastain dedicated 25 years of her professional life to Champion International, where she worked in the Accounting Department. Her commitment to her work was only surpassed by her passion for cooking and baking, creating countless cherished memories for her family around the dining table.

Martha attended Trinity Baptist Church, where her faith and service strengthened her community ties, reflecting her deeply held values.

She is survived by two beloved sons, David Chastain (Pattie) and Ricky Chastain (Cindy). Martha's legacy continues through her grandchildren, Rev. Kyle Chastain (Ashley) and Angela Strum (Tim), as well as her four great-grandchildren, Hudson, Oliver, Emily, and Alaina. Each of them carries forward her spirit of love and kindness.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Rev. Kyle Chastain and Rev. Allen Rash officiating. Private burial will be at Morning Star Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the Funeral Home.
