Martha Devore

Martha Hannah DeVore, age 91, passed into Heaven on January 23, 2009. She was predeceased by husband, Max M. DeVore; parents, Henry and Willie Hannah; sisters, Effie Hannah, Carrie Rinehart, Faye Smith; and brothers, Fred, Ben, Virgil, Ralph, Billy, Bob, and Andy Hannah. Her home residence was Candler. In recent years, she resided at The Oaks at Sweeten Creek. Martha's life was centered in her home to which all that entered were welcome and were well fed. She was Mother to her children and grandchildren as well as to all children who crossed her path. She dearly loved children and young people. She was unafraid of work such as gardening, canning, and cooking. Martha loved gospel singing and lent her clear soprano voice to family songfests. Her dedication to Jesus was evident in her sweet disposition and her many short phrases she used to share and teach moral principles. She will be sorely missed by all that knew her. She is survived by daughters, Mary (Wilb) Netherton, Betty Warren, Maxine (Harold) Snelson, Carolyn (Phil) Heatherly, Tammie (Benny) Smith; sons, James (Darlene) DeVore, Gene (Joan) DeVore; a sister, Evelyn Smith of Clyde; and two brothers, Joe Hannah of Candler and Charlie (Hilda) Hannah of Clyde. Additionally she has 26 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastors George Davis and Tommy Crowe officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
