Martha Jean Mease
"1933 - 2017"

Canton - Martha Jean Cook Mease, 83, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2017 at Maggie Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Perry Herman and Elsie Catherine Henson Cook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Steppleton and Ruby Gibson; and a brother, Earl Cook. Martha was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Way Medford Mease, Jr.; three daughters, Myra Ann Brown and her husband, Joseph, of Asheville, Joy Elaine Allen and her fiancée, Patrick McManus, of Augusta, GA, and Lycia Carrol Murray and her husband, Scott, of Canton; one sister, Edith Cook, of Canton; one brother, Guy Cook, of Canton; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Spring Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Scott Murray and Reverend Matt Rhea officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the services at the church.
