Martha Niles

March 13, 1928 — January 25, 2016

Waynesville, Martha Elizabeth Tilley Niles, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2016 at her residence. A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Nettie Bumgarner Tilley and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Floreid Newbrough (Henry) and Doris Robinson (Donald); four brothers Awyer Tilley, Arley Tilley (Jean), George Tilley (Bonnie) and Chuck Tilley (Bette). Martha was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict and retired from Western Carolina University as an Administrative Assistant. Martha was a poet and writer, who loved birds, and had a great sense of humor. She took great pride in her home as well as her life by volunteering at Hazelwood Elementary School reading to children. She was a Hazelwood Boosterette. She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Niles Mullis (Dan) of Atlanta, Georgia and Jaki Niles Brendle (Mike) of Waynesville; one son, Mike Niles (Donna) of Easley, South Carolina; one sister, Louise McFarland; one brother, Buren Tilley (Connie); six grandchildren, Justin Cashion, Jordan and Hannah Brendle, Christopher and Stephanie Niles and Meredith Jones (Chandler); five great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Wells Events & Reception Center. A time of sharing from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. followed by military honors.
