Martha O'Diear

Martha Watkins O'Diear, age 94, of Abel Road died Monday, January 14, 2008 at her residence. She was a native of Monroe County, TN and a prior resident of Swain County and had resided in Haywood County since 1949. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah Crisp Watkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theadore R. O'Diear who died in 1989 and a son Edward O'Diear who died in 1951. Mrs. O'Diear was a homemaker and she loved working in her garden and making butter. She is survived by two daughters, Austine Jones and her husband, Claude, of Darrington WA. and Jean Sharpe and her husband, William, of Canton: nine grandchildren, Roger Jones and his wife, Martha, Janice Hougen and her husband, Sam, Teresa Miller and her husband, David, Doug and Steve Jones, Michael Sharpe and his wife, Karen, Sandra Epley and her husband, Ron, Sharon Sharpe and David Sharpe and his wife, Cristie; 14 great-grandchildren, five great- great-grandchildren; two step granddaughters and five step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Center Pigeon Baptist Church of which she was a long time member. Officiating will be Reverend Allen Blanton, Eddie Stillwell, R.H. "Bud" Lance and Larry Sprouse. Burial will follow in the Center Pigeon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church and at other times the family will be at the home.
