Martha Sorrells

Canton - Evelyn Bumgarner Sorrells - age 84 of Star Ridge Road formerly of the Henson Cove Community died Monday, October 10, 2005 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Haywood County and had lived most of her life there. She was a daughter of the late Pinkney and Julia Lanning Bumgarner and the wife of the late Wayne Sorrells who died in 1988. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Douglas Ray Sorrells; two grandsons, David Griffin and Edwin Guy Sorrells; a sister, Bena Metcalf and seven brothers, Jim, Claude, Henry, Larry, Jess, Bill and Fred Bumgarner. Mrs. Sorrells was a homemaker and a member of Springhill Baptist Church and attended Center Pigeon Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Ellene Sorrells Griffin and her husband, Tommy of Canton; one son, Darrell Sorrells and his wife Pamela of Canton; one brother, Wiley Bumgarner of Florida; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2005 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Chris Willett officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of her son, Darrell Sorrells, 40 Star Ridge Road, where she made her home for the last 17 years. Memorials may be made to one's own favorite charity.
