Martha Ann Fisher Strickland, age 76, died Friday, April 11, 2008, at her residence. A native of Macon County, she had lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was born on March 29, 1932, to the late Bennett John and Birdy Blaine Fisher. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Strickland, who died in 1974. She was a lifelong member of Morning Star United Methodist Church. Martha will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by a son, Bennett Lewis Strickland of Canton; four brothers, Max Delano Fisher and his wife, Lorna, Kay Blaine Fisher and his wife, Karen, Donald Hewitt Fisher and his wife, Norma, and Gerald Alman Fisher and his wife, Alice, all of Canton; four sisters, Frances Fisher Monteith and her husband, Mickey, of Lake Junaluska, Christine Fisher Dunevant and her husband, Rupert, of Rancho Palo Verdes, CA, Edna Fisher Reece and her husband, Randy, of Candler, and Gail Fisher Mull and her husband, Doug, of Canton; 17 nieces and nephews; and 20 great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at a 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2008, at Morning Star United Methodist Church with the Reverend Doug Love officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. At other times, the family will be at the residence of her sister, Gail Mull, 28 Pennsylvania Avenue, Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morning Star United Methodist Church, 2535 Dutch Cove Road, Canton, NC 28716.
