Martin Vaughn Bramlett, age 82, of 868 Mulberry Street died Thursday, July 26, 2007, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. He was a native of Haywood County and the son of the late Vaughn and Annie Best Bramlett. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Julia Carol Bramlett Jones, who died in 2005; and two sisters, Bobbie Louise Bramlett Fulbright and Billie Faye Bramlett Medford. He retired from Champion International as District Sales Manager of the Kansas City, Missouri office after 39 years of service with the company. He was a member of Darrtown United Methodist Church in Darrtown, OH, a member of V.F.W. Post #5198, and a member of the Champion Old Timers. He was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Bramlett was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S.M.C., the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator, and the U. S. Army National Guard. His service included participating in "Operation Crossroads" in the South Pacific. "Operation Crossroads" was the first of the atomic bomb testing in the Pacific by the United States. In addition to his wife of 61 years, Violet Owen Bramlett of Clyde, he is survived by a daughter, Melinda Bramlett Joyner and her husband, Kenneth M., of Hiawassee, GA and St. Petersburg, FL; a son, Martin Owen Bramlett and his wife, Betty Jo Gibbons Bramlett, of Foster City, CA; a son-in-law, Richard Preston Jones of Tacoma, WA; three sisters, Susie Bramlett Crisp, Norma Bramlett Tyson, and Anne Bramlett Mathews all of Canton; a brother, Christopher Lewis Bramlett of Albemarle, NC; four grandchildren, Monica Miller/Ensley, Michael Bramlett Miller, Sara Augusta Bramlett, and Margaret Gibbons Bramlett; and a great-granddaughter, Katherine Marie Redemer. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 30, 2007, at West Canton Baptist Church with the Reverend Joseph Steadman and Reverend Wallace Britt officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Canton. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road with military honors conducted by the United States Navy. His grandson, Michael Bramlett Miller will serve as pallbearer.
