Marvin Brookshire

Marvin R. "Skip" Brookshire, age 72, of Evergreen Circle went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Harris Regional Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late E. G. and Maude Whitted Brookshire. He was also preceded in death by three sisters and a brother, He was of the Baptist faith. Skip was a devoted and caring father. He loved all his family and was happiest when surrounded by them. Skip was a kind, compassionate, and caring Christian who always put others needs before his own. He loved the game of golf and cherished all his golfing buddies. Some of his favorite times were spent at his "place at Chatuge" boating, camping, and teaching the grandkids how to fish and boat. His pets were special companions during his illness. He was also an avid Carolina basketball fan. In addition to his wife of 53 years, Rosa Lee Brookshire, he is survived by two sons, Rick Brookshire and Randy Brookshire and his wife, Melinda, all of Canton; a daughter, Sharon Brookshire-Fish of Sylva; four sisters, Betty Brookshire, Patsy Cogburn and her husband, Sonny, Norma Jean Clark, and Dot Thomason and her husband, Buck, all of Canton; two brothers, Brook Brookshire and his wife, Wilma, of Canton and E. G. Brookshire, Jr., and his wife, Carolyn, of Leicester; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road with the Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. At other times the family will be at the residence of Ricky Brookshire.
