Waynesville-Marvin Hamilton Cope, age 48, died on Friday, September 10, 2010. A lifelong resident of Haywood County, he passed away at Roper St. Francis in Charleston, SC. Marvin had fought and won many battles with his health. While on a run to Charleston with his beloved son and girlfriend, Marti, he got very sick once again. He won his final victory on Friday evening as he entered the gates of Heaven. Marvin was a loving and kind man. He had a great sense of humor and loved a good, practical joke. Marvin never met a stranger and would do anything he could to help someone, and he loved being on the road. He owned and operated Cope's Oversized Load Escorts. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Hamilton Cope. He is survived by a son, Matthew Hamilton Cope of Waynesville; his mother, Frankie Hill Gouge and her husband, George, of Waynesville; a sister, Wendy Moore, and her husband, Tony, of Waynesville; two brothers, David Cope and his wife, Lisa of Whittier and Edward Kay, of Waynesville; nieces and nephews, Dustin and Peyton Cope, Katherine Kay, Joshua, Faith and Madison Faust; a special friend, Marti Van Eepoel of Sylva; stepdaughters, Becky, Brittney, and Beth Ballon of Springfield, Missouri; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and extended family in the trucking industry. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at East Waynesville Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. At the family's request in lieu of flowers, enjoy a long drive along the roads Marvin loved to travel. Along the way, do some simple kind deed for someone in Marvin's memory.
