Candler

Marvin Ray Davis, 78, of Candler passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at the Valor Hospice of the Charles George VAMC. A native of Madison County, he was the son of the late Earnest and Queen Fortner Davis. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Marvin Ray Davis, Jr. in 2004 and a brother, Earl Luther Davis in 2019.

Ray proudly served in the US Air Force where he was stateside during the Vietnam Conflict. Following his military service, he became a machinist in the manufacturing field. A gentle and kind soul, Ray lived a simple life and enjoyed being outside in the sun. He was a ray of sunshine to his family each day.

He is survived by his daughters; Melanie Jackson and her husband, Trent, Miranda “Mandy” Evans and her husband, Jason both of Candler and Crystal Shelton of Greenville, SC; sister, Pat Griffey of SC; five grandchildren, Terri Thompson, Brandon Rhodes, Tyler Grant, Austin Grant and McKinna Tice and his loyal fur baby, Little Bit.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024, in Wells Chapel of Faith, 1 Chapel of Faith Drive, Candler with Reverend Mark Tice officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 11:45 a.m. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Valor Hospice of the Charles George VAMC, 1100 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805

The care of Mr. Davis has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler.
