Marvin Forney

Waynesville, Marvin Eugene Forney, age 75, of 189 Craven Road, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2008 at his residence. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Thomas Forney, Sr. and Myrtle Lytle Forney. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Churchwell Forney, who died in 1994; four sisters; two brothers; and a son-in-law, Michael Robinson Graham. He was employed by the Haywood County landfill for 27 years and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. He was an avid wrestling fan and enjoyed walking. He is survived by three sons, Marvin Forney, Jr. and wife, Alice, of Hendersonville, NC, Jonas Forney and companion, Catherine McKinney and Daryl Forney and companion, Kim Jaynes, all of Waynesville; four daughters, Mallie Forney and Marie Graham, of Waynesville, Pearl Riley and husband, Fred, of Clyde, and Evelyn Jeanette Powell and husband, George, of Bryson City; two sisters, Mary Conley and Esther Gibson, both of Waynesville; one brother, Richard Forney, of Waynesville; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Forney, of Fayetteville; a brother-in-law, Tommy Churchwell, of Waynesville; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Mount Olive Baptist Church with Reverend Walter Bryson officiating. Burial will follow at Dix Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Thomas Bryant, Junior Jackson, Edward Moore, Preston Hall, Thomas Bryant, Jr., and Demetri McClarrin. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Burkes and Tommy Rogers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville and at other times, at the home.
