Marvin Rathbone

"Loving Husband, Father, & Grandfather"

Candler - Marvin Avery Rathbone, 78, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals.

A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Nathan Faraday and Kathleen Arrington Rathbone. Marvin coached Hominy Valley Youth Baseball for many years and was an avid UNC Tar Heels fan. He loved camping and fishing especially fishing in Florida with his friends. Marvin retired in 2005, with 20 years of service, as a truck driver for Southern Concrete. He also served in the United States Coast Guard.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Catherine Hall Rathbone; one daughter, Michelle Brooks and husband, Adam, of Candler; one son, Marvin Rathbone, Jr. of Candler; one brother, Carlton Rathbone and wife, Linda, of Candler; two grandchildren; Emily Brooks and Tyler Ashby both of Candler; special friends, Janet and Hermon Redmon of Asheville; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2017 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Stan Welch and Adam Brooks officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
