Mary Alcorn

Waynesville, Mary Gayle Reams Alcorn, age 42, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at The Homestead. Mary was born March 1, 1971 in Jacksonville, Florida, and had resided in Haywood County for 16 ½ years. She is the daughter of Corrine Brooks Reams and the late David Curtis Reams, Sr. In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by her father-in-law, Bill Alcorn. Mary was a past officer at the Elk's Lodge of Waynesville, a member of the Jonathan Valley PTO and the Elk's National Foundation. She was a member of Waynesville First Baptist Church. Mary's life was devoted to her son. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 18 years, John B. Alcorn, Sr.; a son, John B. "JB" Alcorn, Jr. of the home; a sister, Lynn Bridges and her husband, Reverend Dr. Charlie Bridges, of Cohutta, Georgia; two brothers, David C. Reams, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida and James Reams of Waynesville; her mother-in-law, Betty Alcorn of Waynesville; a brother-in-law, Warren Alcorn and his wife, Denise, of Atlanta, Georgia; nieces and nephews, Kalyn and Justin Bridges, Curtis E. Reams and Jessica and Julia Alcorn; aunts, Theresa Hartley of Prescott, Arizona, Beatrice Cave of Dasher, Georgia and Jim Reams of Crescent City, Florida. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Charlie Bridges officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A reception will follow the service at the Waynesville Elk's Lodge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Waynesville Elk's Lodge, P.O. Box 825, Waynesville, NC 28786.
