Charlotte, NC – (formerly of Lake Junaluska) – Mrs. Apetz, 80, died September 12, 2009 at Legacy Heights Memory Care, Ballantyne. She was born December 4, 1928 in Ada, Oklahoma to Lt. Col. and Mrs. George L. Neblett. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by sister, Montie Burgess and brother, Boyd Neblett. She is survived by her husband, Dr. William L. Apetz of Charlotte, NC, son Dr. Edward Apetz (Linda) Greenville, NC and daughter Mary (Dr. Robert) Sturge (Charlotte). Also surviving are her 5 grandsons, Christian Apetz (Peabody, Mass), Patrick Apetz (Williamstown, NJ), Matthew and Andrew Sturge (Charlotte), Daniel Sturge(Boone, NC) and great granddaughter Jadyn Apetz (Petaluma, Calif). She is also survived by sisters Dorothy Fix (Sparks, MD) and Georgia Jenkins (Columbia, SC). Mrs. Apetz graduated from Glassboro State College in New Jersey (now Rowan University) receiving her bachelors and masters' degrees, as well as further academic work. She served as a high school counselor at Paulsboro and Vernon Township High Schools in New Jersey and was a senior counselor at Erwin High School in Buncombe County, NC. She also taught English at Farleigh Dickinson University and Jersey City State College (NJ) and philosophy for Western Carolina University. In 1993 she was named the North Carolina High School Counselor of the Year. Mrs. Apetz was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and Delta Kappa Gamma in Haywood County, NC. Service to others was paramount to Mrs. Apetz through her work in her church and the community. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2009 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Jim Warren and Reverend Dr. Robert Sturge officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Following the memorial service, all guests are invited to join the family for a reception at the Intentional Growth Center at Lake Junaluska.
