Mary Carpenter

Waynesville, Mary Ellen Carpenter, age 72, of Browning Branch Road, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the Brian Center. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Augustus and Virginia Withers Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Feinstein and Marian Messer and three brothers, Walter "Red", Joseph, and Carroll "Tommy" Williams. Mary loved spending time with her family camping at Jack Rabbit Campground. She also enjoyed working in her garden, crafts, and sewing as well as attending Faith United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Joe Carpenter; one daughter, Sheree Hill and husband, Mike, of Waynesville; two sons, Joe Steve Carpenter and his wife, Martha, of Sylva and Randy Carpenter of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Brittany Hill Crisp, Wesley Hill, and Morgan Carpenter. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2011 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Nelson and Reverend Susan Giles officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Don, Harry, and Junior Carpenter, Marty Sutton, and Victor and Chris "Bubba" Carver. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Carpenter and Hugh Carver. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 1:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
