Mary Crawford

Mary Brown Crawford, 79, of 1156 Leita Street, Newberry, died May 14, 2011 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 1, 1932, in Haywood County, NC, a daughter of the late Pearl and Nora Jones Brown. Mrs. Crawford retired in 1996 from the Newberry County Memorial Hospital and was a member of O'Neal Street United Methodist Church in Newberry. She enjoyed planting flowers and spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Crawford is survived by daughter, Darlene C. (Calvin) Garland; son, Wayne (Lanel) Crawford, both of Newberry; brothers, Harley Brown, of Canton, NC, and Pastor Calvin (Teresa) Brown of Romelus, MI; sisters, Irene Brown (Bob) Gibson, of Clyde, NC, Betty Williams, Hilda (Charles) Fish, and Geneva Summey, all of Canton, NC, and Lee Beauchemin and fiancée Cliffton Attaway, of Cowpens; four grandchildren, and two step-grandsons; and eight great-grandchildren, including Casey W. Shealy who was reared in the home. She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. William C. Crawford, Jr.; two sons, William C. Crawford and Jess A. Crawford; daughter, Judy C. Shealy; grandson, Jeffrey Crawford; brother, Grady Brown; and sister Josephine Worthy. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday at O'Neal Street United Methodist Church by Pastor Richard Goldie, Pastor Calvin Brown, Pastor David Inman, and Pastor Kenny Weaver. Interment will follow in the Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry. . Active pallbearers will be Ryan Gibson, Bob Gibson, David Gibson, Dewayne Worley, Rodney Gibson, and Michael Nelson. Honorary pallbearers will be current and former staff members of Newberry County Memorial Hospital. The family suggests memorials be made to O'Neal Street United Methodist Church, PO Box 5, or to the Whitaker Funeral Home, 1704 College Street, both of Newberry, SC 29108..
