Mary Feichter

August 7, 1940 — July 2, 2016

Waynesville, Mary Kathryne Feichter, 75, of Waynesville, passed away on Saturday, July 2 at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Kathryn Frank, her husband, Ralph Feichter, and a granddaughter, Lydia Moore. She is survived by six children, Sarah Aldridge (Allen Aldridge) of Marietta, Georgia, Martha Ruffin (Morrie Ruffin) of Baltimore, Maryland, Leslie Mattern (Shada Mattern) of Seiverville, Tennessee, Eric Feichter (Nerina Patane), of Arden, North Carolina, Rachel Feichter (Steve Wolfe) of Washington, DC, and Jennifer Cox (Charles Cox) of Seattle, Washington, 18 wonderful grandchildren and two brothers, Robert and Richard Frank. Mary wrote, "I have lived a wonderful life full of travel, adventure and lots of family fun. There are so many wonderful memories that far outweigh the pitfalls of everyday life. One of my favorite things to do is bake and cook and I loved sharing my cookies with friends and school children. There may be some students who remember and say 'yeah, Mrs. Feichter's sugar cookies'". Mary owned and operated the Smoky Mountain Duplicate Bridge Club, which she described as a real job with wonderful people who actually helped her much more than she helped them, and for that she was thankful. She worked the polls for the Haywood County Election Board for 30 years alongside Robbie Inman. She wanted him and his wonderful staff to know what a delight it was to work with them and that she was grateful for the opportunity. Most rewarding was her work for the Democratic Party. A life-long Democrat, Mary was a dedicated volunteer at the Haywood Democratic Party headquarters and took pride in working alongside her best friend, Janie Benson. Her greatest regret was not being able to cast a vote for Hilary Clinton as our first woman president. In lieu of a formal service, all are invited to join the Feichter family for a celebration of Mary's life on Wednesday, July 6 at the Waynesville Armory in the Bridge Club room from 5-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Haywood Democratic Party or the Haywood County Animal Shelter.
