Mary Ferguson

Clyde, Mary Dell Green Ferguson, age 89, of the Fines Creek community, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Reva Bennett Green. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Owen Ferguson, who died in 1995; brothers, Henry and Mark Green, a son, Hubert Ferguson. Mary was a member of Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church and attended Crabtree Baptist Church. Mary loved basketball, where she played on her high school championship basketball team and also enjoyed watching games on television. She was an avid UNC Tarheels fan. Mary was very devoted to her family whom she loved with all her heart. She is survived by a son, Robert Darwin Ferguson and his wife, Glenda of Clyde; two sisters, Faye Swanger of Clyde and Blanche Swanger and her husband, Varnel of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Frank Green of Clyde; two grandchildren, Brandon Ferguson and his wife Christy of Clyde and Megan Cookston and her husband Brian of Bryson City; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Torie and Mylie and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2010 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Reverend Billy Ferguson and Reverend Matt Ledbetter will officiate. Burial will be in the Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Mark, Austin and Loften Swanger and Marion, Neil and Steve Ferguson. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Green, Damon and Matthew Swanger.
