Mary Greene

Waynesville, Mary Ruth Rose Greene, age 84, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2010 at The Oaks in Asheville. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Dewey and Hazel Rhodarmer Rose. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Earl Greene, who died in 2002 and a son, Benny Greene and a brother Ernest Rose. She was a homemaker for many years and an active community member helping those in need. Mary along with her husband Earl built a beautiful home on family land in Jonathan Valley where she spent many years enjoying the view from her window. She also hosted many family and friend gatherings there. Many enjoyed her family tradition of gardening, canning, and working in her flower beds. She was a member of New Covenant Church. She is survived by a son, Ernest Harold "Ernie" and his wife Kathryn of Washington, DC; one daughter, Brenda Greene Bower and husband, Charles, of Fletcher; one sister, Eunice Morrow of Waynesville; one brother, Johnny R. Rose of Canton; four grandchildren, Christopher "Chris" Bower, Bria Bower Davis, Tiffany Mack, and Benjamin Tyler Greene; and three great grandchildren, Drake Davis, Justin and Kyle Mack. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2010 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Reverend Bruce Cayton will officiate. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
