Mary Hardin

"Loving Mother & Grandmother" Canton – Mary Frances Howell Hardin, 85, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Baylor "Hickey" and Lois Jamison Howell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C.W. Hardin, former mayor of Canton, who died in 2005. Mary Frances was a lifelong member of Canton Central United Methodist Church. She served as the church secretary for many years and was also very active with United Methodist Women. Mary Frances never met a stranger and loved to talk with all her friends and acquaintances. She and her husband were volunteers for Meals on Wheels and she continued as a volunteer following her husband's death. Mary Frances' greatest pleasure was her family, especially her granddaughters. Surviving Mary Frances is one daughter, Becky Campbell and husband, Randy, of Asheville; one son, Charles Hardin and wife, Knox, of Canton; two granddaughters, Kara Hardin of Greensboro and Brittainy Crawford and husband, Brandon, of Canton; and one great-granddaughter, Maddox Crawford. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Canton Central United Methodist Church with the Reverend Paul Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. The family would like to acknowledge Silver Bluff Nursing Home for the wonderful care they provided and would also like to thank her roommate, Beulah Farmer, who became an angel in Mary Frances' life.
