Mary Head

Mary Loretta Putnam Head, age 87, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2014 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late George Wilson and Mary Ethel Wright Putnam. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Leonard Head, Jr. who died in 1973; three brothers, William H., Virgil L. and M. Mont Putnam. She was a member of Canton Wesleyan Church. She was deeply loved by her family and friends. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Beatrice Morgan and her husband, Allen, of Canton; a son, Gene Head of Rutherfordton; four sisters, Lucy Franklin of Waynesville, Edith Downs of Clyde, Lura McCrain of Hickory, and Janice Silver of Canton; a brother, Hugh Putnam of Hickory; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Terry Penland and Reverend Perry Hines officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Community Kitchen, P.O.
